Metadata
Metadata are data or information that describes other data. Examples include data that describe how or where the data were collected, whether or not the data comply with agreed-upon data standards, or how the data will be used. "Data about data" that describe the content, quality, condition, and other characteristics of data. Metadata accompanies the data set through its transmission.
