Node Technology

The Gulf of Maine Ocean Data Partnership ( GoMODP ) plans to use the 2009 Open Source Node technology.

Current Flows

None- We are new to the game.

Planned Flows

ODPX - Ocean Data Partnership Exchange
WQX - Water Quality Exchange (Read Only access for selected USGS data)

Other Exchange Network Related Projects

The GoMODP will develop a Web Application to augment it's Exchange Network Node. This application will provide Data Discovery and other related functionality to Gulf of Maine Researchers, Resource Management and other interested parties. Plans for this application include accessing Exchange Network data as well as data from other sources SOS ( Sensor Observation Services ), WMS ( Web Feature Services ), WFS ( Web Feature Services and WCS ( Web Coverage Services ).

A very preliminary schema

Our plan dictated starting with the WQX schema. We quickly found that our partners varied wildly in their levels of ability to provide data and their (understandable) reluctance to duplicate data already served by credible sources. The Data Partnership had also previously invested heavily in populating NASA's GCMD ( Global Change Master Directory ). This lead us to a 3 tiered approach to dealing with data and data storage

1) Discovery only relying on existing GCMD data ( Accessed via the GCMD Open API)
2) Data from 1 plus Monitoring location and Activity data.
3) Everything including results

A very preliminary, and ever changing, version of the resulting schema can be found here. [1]

NOTE:Ideally data not stored locally would be retrievable via a chaining of web services to simplify end user access.
